Puma’s Numbers Raise Concerns at Barcelona amid Sponsorship Rumors
The FC Barcelona is seriously considering a potential change of sponsorship, a significant move after being with Nike since 1998. Puma, the German sportswear brand, has emerged as a lucrative option for the club, with the recent deal involving RB Leipzig providing insights into the financial gains that could be achieved.
RB Leipzig, formerly sponsored by Nike, opted not to renew their 10-year contract, instead signing a new deal with Puma reportedly worth 150 million euros over the same period. This represents a substantial 2.5-fold increase from their previous arrangement, signaling a potential windfall for Barcelona if a similar pattern emerges.
For context, Barcelona currently receives 105 million euros annually from Nike. If the proportional increase seen with RB Leipzig is applied, Barcelona’s potential agreement with Puma could exceed a staggering 250 million euros.
While the reported figures for Barcelona’s prospective deal with Puma are not as astronomical, they still represent a significant boost, doubling the current earnings from Nike. The rumored contract suggests an annual sum of around 200 million euros, comprising 115 million fixed and 85 million in variable components.
With Puma securing sponsorships for RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig, further expansion into the RB Bragantino network is anticipated, solidifying Puma’s presence in football sponsorships. However, the latter deal is set to materialize only in 2025, showcasing the brand’s strategic approach to team affiliations.
