As we approach the final stretch of the current season, preparations for the next campaign are already underway. While details about the schedule and start date are yet to be confirmed, ‘Relevo’ reports that FC Barcelona has made a request to LaLiga for the upcoming season.

The FC Barcelona plans to complete the first phase of the renovation works at the Spotify Camp Nou by November of the next season. By then, the stadium will reopen its doors to the public, hosting football matches with a reduced capacity. Only 60,000 seats out of the total 105,000 will be available. According to the information mentioned, Barça has asked the league to schedule as many away games as possible until the Spotify Camp Nou reopens. The aim is to maximize the returns on the renovation works, as the relocation to Montjuïc has resulted in losses of approximately €78 million.

Therefore, the Blaugrana club hopes to start LaLiga 2024/25 by playing the first three matches away from home, before the first of the three international breaks scheduled until the end of 2024. From December onwards until the end of the season, Barça would play more home games to optimize the economic performance of the new Spotify Camp Nou, a request that LaLiga typically tries to accommodate for the clubs.

This situation has become common in recent seasons. For instance, this year, Real Madrid played the first three league matches away from the Bernabéu (against Athletic Club, Almería, and Celta de Vigo) to finalize the last details of the stadium renovation. Additionally, the white club requested to play the last match of this season on Saturday to have time to set up Taylor Swift’s concert.
