Lewandowski’s Insights on Barcelona’s League Comeback Bid and Xavi’s Challenging Period
Robert Lewandowski, the experienced striker who clinched nine consecutive league titles, shares his perspective on Barcelona’s pursuit of the La Liga crown in a recent interview with the club’s media. Having secured eight titles with Bayern Munich and the latest with FC Barcelona, Lewandowski believes Xavi’s team still has a chance to become champions and highlights key factors for a successful comeback.
“It won’t depend on who we play against, but how we play. We have many players with great potential and quality. We need to know how to play, not just to win but to create goal-scoring opportunities,” reflects Lewandowski. Drawing on the recent Getafe match, he emphasizes adaptability during games: “After five or seven minutes, we saw that if we played more forward passes, we would create more chances. We need to adapt during the match to play more easily and generate more opportunities.”
“Whether we need to play more straightforward or possess the ball more, we must do it. We need to find solutions against our opponent. Against Getafe, we played more straightforward but were more effective,” stresses Lewandowski, expressing satisfaction with Barcelona’s performance against Napoli in the Champions League. He believes that replicating a similar style in the second leg at home could lead to more goals and victory.
Touching on the team’s injuries, Lewandowski underlines the importance of a fully fit squad for Barcelona’s competitiveness. “We have a long week to work in training and prepare for the upcoming matches. I believe some key players who were injured will return. It’s crucial to have experienced players on the bench, not just young talents,” concludes the striker.
Additionally, Lewandowski acknowledges Xavi Hernandez’s challenging period, describing it as a “difficult moment” for the coach. Recognizing Xavi’s emotional connection with Barcelona, Lewandowski emphasizes the need for unity, focus, and victories during this testing phase for the former player turned coach.
