The captain of FC Barcelona, Alexia Putellas, has finally broken her silence following her inclusion in the UEFA Nations League final against France. Although she was part of the squad, she did not step onto the field. In the inner corridors of La Cartuja stadium, she expressed her joy, stating, “I feel very good, super happy, mission accomplished, we’re going to the Olympics, and we are champions.”

Montse Tomé, the coach, also spoke about the availability of Alexia Putellas and Tere Abelleira. The Spanish women’s national team secured victory in the UEFA Nations League final, defeating France 2-0 with goals from Barcelona’s Aitana Bonmatí and Mariona Caldentey. This triumph adds to Spain’s recent successes, including the World Cup and qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Alexia Putellas received a surprise call-up to the national team despite not having been medically cleared with FC Barcelona. Although she did not feature in the semifinal against the Netherlands, she was included in the squad for the final against France, where she did not play any minutes. In a video shared on the official channels of the Spanish women’s team, Alexia expressed her satisfaction, mentioning her injury, “I feel good, eager to play, it’s almost time. Now back with the club and ready to enjoy playing, which is what we all love.”

Her inclusion in the national team raised concerns at FC Barcelona, as they believe it might have disrupted the final phase of her recovery. Alexia will now return to Barcelona and continue her preparations to reach peak form for the latter part of the season.
