Progress Update: The Ongoing Transformation of Spotify Camp Nou
Here’s the Current State of the Spotify Camp Nou Renovation
As of now, the Spotify Camp Nou is in the construction phase, progressing according to the planned timeline, with no delays or advancements. The club anticipates Barcelona playing home games there from November, boasting a capacity of 65,000 seats across the first and second tiers.
Since late 2022, the renovation of Spotify Camp Nou has been underway. Over a year later, the iconic stadium’s construction is on track, and the club’s projection remains unchanged: FC Barcelona will return to their home ground from November, offering 65,000 seats spanning the first and second tiers.
Barça fans are eagerly counting the days until they can return to Les Corts, bidding farewell to the temporary Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in Montjuïc. While initially applauded as a provisional solution, the return to Camp Nou is eagerly anticipated from various quarters. The last match at the Barcelona coliseum was held on May 28, 2023, against Mallorca (3-0), with Gavi scoring the final goal in the second half. There’s truly no place like home.
Regarding the ongoing construction of the Spotify Camp Nou, it is currently in the construction phase, with pillars rising and visible from the stadium surroundings. Five large cranes are deployed for this remarkable phase in the vicinity of the venue.
The previous demolition phase concluded ahead of schedule. However, in the current construction phase, Limak (the Turkish company overseeing the project) is progressing according to the initially outlined schedule without any deviations or delays.
As for the required permits, the club is confident that they will obtain them on time. The license for activities will be crucial and is under the jurisdiction of the Ajuntament de Barcelona. It is essential to secure this license at the completion of the construction phase to resume football matches in the stadium in November.
If everything proceeds as planned in the coming months, the new stadium is expected to be completed by August 2026, boasting its full capacity of nearly 105,000 seats. This will further solidify its position as the European stadium with the highest number of seats.
The Espai Barça is envisioned to become a prominent sports facility nationally and internationally in the future. Sergi Ricart, the director of the Commercial Area at FC Barcelona, highlighted its significance for the club’s global leadership in sports, economic recovery, and future viability. During an event at the Mobile World Congress (MWC), Ricart showcased images of the future Spotify Camp Nou, including new VIP areas, emphasizing the club’s aim to be a year-round welcoming space, offering unique activities on matchdays and non-matchdays alike.
