Xavi Hernández, the head coach of Barcelona, continues to downplay any potential reconsideration of his decision to leave the club at the end of the season. Despite ongoing speculations surrounding his future, Xavi maintains that there have been no changes to his stance, stating, “As of today, nothing has varied. There is no issue,” during a press conference ahead of the Athletic Bilbao-Barcelona clash.

As expected, questions about Xavi’s future persisted, and the coach remained firm in his response, insisting that his focus remains on the upcoming match against Athletic Bilbao. “Step by step, and let’s go for Athletic tomorrow. There has been no variation,” emphasized the Terrassa-native.

Shifting to the sporting aspect, Xavi acknowledged the challenging nature of facing the physically intense ‘Leones.’ He recognized Athletic’s confidence following their Copa del Rey final qualification and highlighted the importance of winning this encounter, stating, “It’s the most physical and intense opponent in the league. We know what awaits us, and we will compete. Winning would be a significant step forward.”

Xavi described the current phase as “the moment of truth,” expressing optimism about the team’s improved dynamics. However, he acknowledged the demanding schedule ahead, with crucial matches against direct rivals and the Champions League, describing it as the decisive stretch of the season. Despite the challenges, Xavi shared positive sentiments about the team’s current state, emphasizing responsibility and dynamism.

Regarding the prospect of a breakthrough if Barcelona secures a victory in San Mamés, Xavi remained hopeful. “Hopefully. It’s an ideal scenario to play a great game, match their rhythm, faith, intensity… they have a lot of spirit, and we need to match them in these values.”

Xavi expressed gratitude for having a clean week to prepare for the match, emphasizing the need for a more vertical approach, attacking spaces, and increased effectiveness. Reflecting on his own involvement and humorously addressing his four yellow cards in the league, Xavi quipped, “I’ll try not to get the fifth. But it’s my way of living football. I’m passionate… you can’t say I’m not involved, huh (laughs). But of course, sometimes I make mistakes, like everyone.”

The coach also provided insights into the form of several players, including Lewandowski, who was named the best player of February in La Liga. Xavi praised the Polish striker for making a difference and noted positive developments in the team as a whole. Regarding Joao Félix and Ferran, Xavi expressed contentment with the Portuguese forward and indicated that the Spanish winger would likely be in the squad for the upcoming match against Mallorca.
