Barça One Officially Announced: New Streaming Platform Set to Debut in Coming Weeks
The FC Barcelona has officially announced the launch of “Barça One,” its upcoming streaming platform, which is set to make its debut in the coming weeks. The club aims to fill the void left by Barça TV, which ceased broadcasting on June 30. Barça One will kick off with the release of a documentary on Ronald Araujo, scheduled for early April.
Objectives of Barça One Barça One will feature over 1,500 hours of video content, including archival material from the Barça TV era (matches, programs, documentaries, historical content) and a fresh lineup of programming covering the latest from the Azulgrana, with live shows, press conferences, and original productions, among other content.
This new audiovisual venture presents an opportunity for FC Barcelona to generate revenue globally and expand the Barça brand internationally.
First Exclusive Content: ‘Orígenes | Araujo’ The inaugural exclusive content on Barça One will be ‘Orígenes | Araujo,’ a documentary focusing on the Uruguayan center-back. The documentary will be presented to the media at the Espai Texas in Barcelona on Wednesday.
Cost Efficiency Barça One aims to connect with club members and fans similarly to the former Barça TV, which had been broadcasting since 1999 and ceased operations on June 30. The decision to discontinue Barça TV was part of the cost-cutting measures outlined in the viability plan presented to LaLiga by the club. Eduard Romeu, the club’s economic vice president, explained that Barça TV had an expense of fourteen million euros with revenues of two million. Considering the Telefónica agreement, the club was spending between six and eight million.
Since that day, the board began working on a new project, which has now been presented to club executives by Toni Cruz, an experienced audiovisual expert and the project’s lead. The new project is expected to have significantly lower costs than the former Barça TV.
