Alexia’s Latest Milestone with Barça: A Historic Return with a Goal
Alexia Putellas continues to make history effortlessly. The FC Barcelona captain made a triumphant return after nearly four months sidelined due to injury, scoring the seventh goal for the Blaugranas in Zubieta and entering the club’s ‘TOP5’ historical goal-scorers list.
Her goal against Real Sociedad marks Alexia’s 185th with the Barcelona jersey, surpassing the legendary José Samitier, who previously held the fifth position in the all-time goal-scorers ranking with 184. She now only trails behind Leo Messi (672), César Rodríguez (232), Luis Suárez (198), and Ladislao Kubala (194). In addition to overtaking Samitier, who now sits in sixth place, Alexia is ahead of Jenni Hermoso (181) and Josep Escolà (167).
NUMBERS OF A STRIKER Alexia has reached this remarkable feat in her twelve seasons with FC Barcelona, a tenure still ongoing since she joined the club in the summer of 2012, considering she was sidelined for almost a year due to injury.
The numbers are incredible, more typical of a forward than a midfielder. It remains extraordinary, a term frequently associated with her, that Alexia has become Barça’s all-time leading goal-scorer while playing in a midfield role, even though at the beginning of the season, we also saw her in the false nine position. In this season, her first after the cruciate ligament injury and despite the 117-day hiatus, she has regained her effectiveness – a trademark of hers. In the ten games played, she has notched six goals and provided two assists. She continues to add to her tally, aiming for more accomplishments.
