Former Barça Player Rafa Mujica Crowned Best Forward in Portugal for February
Rafa Mujica, the striker for Arouca and former Barcelona player, has been named the best forward in the Portuguese football league for the month of February. This accolade breaks the winning streak of Swedish player Viktor Gyökeres (Sporting), who had secured the previous four awards.
At 25 years old, Mujica garnered 36.51% of the votes from league coaches, surpassing Gyökeres, who received 26.98%, and another former Barça player, Francisco Trincão of Sporting, with 3.97%.
Described as “decisive” in February, Mujica showcased stellar performances with three goals and one assist in four league matches, as highlighted by the league in a statement.
In his second season in Portugal, Rafa Mujica, hailing from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (born in 1998), has emerged as one of the most lethal forwards in the Portuguese league, currently tallying 16 goals. He stands as the third-highest scorer, trailing Simon Banza (Braga) with 18 goals and Gyökeres with 19.
Formerly part of La Masia and Las Palmas, Mujica leads the offensive trident for Arouca, currently in the seventh position, alongside compatriots Cristo González and Jason Remeseiro. Together, they have contributed 33 of the team’s 43 league goals.
