David Raya Praises Barcelona’s Young Talents Cubarsí and Yamal
David Raya, the Arsenal goalkeeper, showered praise on Pau Cubarsí and Lamine Yamal, two rising stars from Barcelona, who have recently been called up to the senior Spanish national team at just 17 and 16 years old, respectively. Raya described the duo as being “touched by magic” and expressed his pride in having them alongside him under the guidance of coach Luis de la Fuente.
“It’s a pleasure to have such young players with us. It’s a pride for the younger generation to see them in the senior team. Each career is unique, and they are truly gifted, demonstrating their talent in every game. I’m glad they are with us and contributing,” Raya said in a press conference about the two Barcelona players.
Regarding the selection process, Raya emphasized the authority of the coach in making decisions. “The coach is the one who chooses the squad. People can have their opinions, but ultimately, it’s the coach who selects. All the players here are having a good season and are in good form,” he added.
Reflecting on recent performances, particularly in the crucial Champions League match against Porto, Raya expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance and his own contribution, especially in saving two penalties. He highlighted the team’s unity and determination, expressing pride in helping secure qualification to the quarter-finals.
Looking ahead to upcoming friendlies against Colombia and Brazil, Raya dismissed concerns about holding back efforts to avoid injuries, stressing the team’s commitment to preparing for the Euro 2024. He emphasized their readiness to give their all, aiming to deliver good football and secure victories in both matches.
