Marcelo Bielsa Supports Barcelona: Araujo Released from International Duty
Uruguay’s national team coach, Marcelo Bielsa, took the initiative to release Ronald Araujo from international duty this month, recognizing the defender’s crucial role at Barcelona and refraining from overburdening him with friendly matches.
Araujo, a key figure in Barcelona’s defense, was included in Uruguay’s squad for the March international break but did not feature in the friendly against the Basque Country team in San Mamés. He will also miss the upcoming friendly against Ivory Coast in Lens, France.
Having played in all four previous official matches for Uruguay in October and November, Araujo’s absence from the friendlies reflects Bielsa’s understanding of his commitments with Barcelona, especially considering the critical Champions League quarter-final tie against PSG and the remaining La Liga fixtures.
Bielsa’s decision to prioritize Araujo’s club commitments has been warmly welcomed by Barcelona, as it allows the defender to return to the training ground and prepare for upcoming important matches, including the clash against Las Palmas and the crucial first leg against PSG in the Champions League.
