A former FC Barcelona player known as ‘Peque’ emerges as the top contender for the Segunda Division’s Pichichi award, rivaling Braithwaite for the league’s top scorer title. With 16 goals already under his belt for Racing de Santander, currently in a playoff position for promotion to the top tier, Gerard Pérez ‘Peque’ showcases his prowess.

Gerard Pérez, nicknamed ‘Peque’, stands out as one of La Masia’s success stories, thriving beyond the comfort zone. At 22 years old, he parted ways with Barça two seasons ago, seeking professional opportunities with Racing de Santander. While his initial season saw him struggle to adapt to the faster pace of Segunda Division football, scoring only one goal in 23 appearances, the experience proved invaluable. In the current campaign, he has notched an impressive 16 goals in 31 matches.

Peque ranks as the league’s second-highest scorer, trailing only Martin Braithwaite, Segunda’s standout star, who has bagged 18 goals.

Hailing from L’Hospitalet, Peque’s stellar performances have attracted attention from several top-flight clubs, as his goals contribute to Racing’s sixth-place position, securing a playoff spot for promotion.

Having honed his skills in La Masia and a stint at Cornellà, Peque returned to Barça’s reserve team, tallying 7 goals in 45 appearances. Now, thriving in professional football, the future looks bright for the young talent.
