Besiktas Pursues Oriol Romeu as Barcelona Eyes Midfield Reshuffle

As spring unfolds, FC Barcelona is already planning for the upcoming season, with Oriol Romeu’s future emerging as a key focus. Despite remaining under contract until June 30, 2026, Romeu’s prominence has waned, relegating him to a secondary or even tertiary role within the squad.

Although Romeu started the season with significant involvement, his participation has dwindled in the latter half, with Christensen assuming the defensive midfield duties. Additionally, the club is actively scouring the market for a midfielder with greater dynamism. While Besiktas expressed interest in Romeu during the winter transfer window, a move failed to materialize.

However, reports indicate that Besiktas continues to pursue Romeu, albeit under revised terms for a summer transfer. While the Turkish club was previously willing to exceed €3 million for Romeu, the current asking price is significantly lower.

Besiktas’ interest isn’t the only one Romeu is fielding. He remains highly regarded, particularly within Spain, attracting attention from several clubs, notably Girona, which has publicly expressed interest in reuniting with him. Given Romeu’s preference to remain in LaLiga, it’s unlikely he’ll be swayed by the Turkish proposition.

Nevertheless, if Xavi Hernández reverses his decision to depart and opts to continue coaching Barcelona, there remains a slim possibility of Romeu’s retention, albeit contingent on increased playing time. However, given his current status, Romeu may need to seek quality minutes elsewhere if he wishes to maintain a prominent role on the pitch.
