Outrage! Taylor’s Two Major Controversies in PSG-Barça
The match between PSG and Barça was an exchange of blows that was not without controversy. The most glaring incident came in the first fifteen minutes when Raphinha, in a counterattack launched by Barça, received a brutal tackle from Beraldo, leaving the Brazilian writhing in pain on the turf for several minutes. Fortunately for Xavi, Raphinha was able to continue without issues and complete the first half at the highest level. In fact, the winger opened the scoring in the 36th minute with a shot with his right foot. Missed Vitinha’s Red Card In the second half, with the score tied at 2-2 in the 68th minute, Taylor missed a decision that could have potentially changed the outcome of the match and the tie.
After showing Vitinha the first yellow card four minutes earlier, the English referee hesitated to show the second card to the Portuguese midfielder, who halted a lethal counterattack from Barça with a tackle from behind on Lewandowski.
Taylor, a Familiar Figure Born in Wythenshawe 45 years ago and an international referee since 2013, Taylor officiated a PSG-Barça match for the second time in his career. He previously refereed the clash on March 10, 2021, which ended in a 1-1 draw in the second leg of the round of 16, resulting in the elimination of the Catalan side.
He also refereed Barcelona’s matches against Olympiacos (0-0) and Bayern Munich (0-3) away, before officiating the team’s game against Porto at Do Dragao Stadium this season, which ended in a 1-0 victory for Xavi Hernández’s side.
That match was marked by Robert Lewandowski’s injury, as he had to be substituted after sustaining a knock to his left leg, resulting in a minor ankle sprain that caused him to miss three matches, one in the Champions League and two in the league.
