Chelsea’s Bombshell Ahead of Clash with Barça in Champions League
Days before the Champions League semifinal between Chelsea and Barça, British media reports a major development at the London club, as Sonia Bompastor is set to take over as the new head coach next season. The news, initially revealed by The Telegraph, states that Chelsea has finalized negotiations with Bompastor, who currently coaches at Olympique Lyonnais, along with her assistant Camille Abily.
The main hurdle was Bompastor’s existing contract with OL, which runs until 2025. However, it’s reported that Chelsea and Olympique have reached an agreement to allow Bompastor’s contract termination and subsequent signing with Chelsea.
Bompastor has been instrumental in OL’s success in recent years, dominating French and European football until the emergence of FC Barcelona. Interestingly, both Bompastor and Chelsea’s current coach Emma Hayes could potentially face each other in this season’s Champions League, with both teams vying for a spot in the final. While Chelsea faces Barcelona, OL will contest a ‘French showdown’ against PSG in the semifinals.
