Barcelona Miss Out on Club World Cup Spot After PSG Defeat: 11 European Teams Qualify
After their loss to PSG, Barcelona has failed to secure a spot in the revamped 32-team Club World Cup slated for 2025. This setback stems from Barcelona’s low UEFA Champions League club ranking over the past four seasons, necessitating at least a semi-final finish to be in contention for qualification.
Consequently, Barcelona’s elimination in the quarter-finals paves the way for Atletico Madrid’s qualification, benefiting from a superior European ranking. The missed opportunity costs Barcelona a minimum of €50 million, the baseline amount allocated to participating clubs. FIFA’s estimated budget of €2 billion for the tournament promises substantial rewards, with the eventual winner poised to claim over €100 million in prize money alone.
Currently, 11 European teams have secured qualification for the Club World Cup, including Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Benfica, and Porto.
Like Barcelona, Arsenal’s fate hinges on their performance against Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final. Failing to defeat Bayern would potentially grant RB Salzburg the qualifying berth.
