Xavi’s Future in Doubt: Demands Could Complicate Contract Renewal

As the season winds down with no major objectives other than securing second place for a spot in the Spanish Super Cup, Barcelona remains uncertain about who will lead the team next season. Xavi’s continuity hangs in the balance, although the coach himself has stated multiple times that his intention to leave the club at the end of the year remains firm. In recent days, as reported by SPORT, it seems that the Terrassa native has opened the door to negotiating a possible stay at FC Barcelona.

It appears that for Xavi to continue, he requires assurances that the club can provide him with the players he requests. It’s worth noting that this season, Xavi repeatedly asked for a midfielder like Zubimendi, but ultimately no one arrived in that position, except for Oriol Romeu, who has failed to establish himself as a regular starter. Toni Freixa, former director and presidential candidate for Barça, explained on ‘Radio MARCA’ that he believes it will be very difficult for the coach to stay in his position. “I see that he doesn’t want to say he’s leaving for many reasons, some contractual and also because he wants to prove himself and leave as a winner. He will demand a series of conditions that will make his continuity very difficult.”

Indeed, Xavi’s future remains uncertain. The club will have to decide what to do if they cannot reach an agreement with the Terrassa native and begin searching for a replacement, although all indications point to Rafa Márquez as the top candidate to succeed him.

“If there are elections, Laporta wins by a landslide” Freixa also commented on Laporta’s second term. The former director is convinced that the Barcelona president has won over the club’s social mass and that if there were elections, he would win by a landslide, thanks to his personality that makes him seem like an independent president.

“If any of us who have been close to the presidency did a tenth of what he does, we would have been out of the game long ago,” Freixa affirmed.
