Cubarsi’s Renewal in Progress: Barça Eyes Loan for Vitor Roque

Although he didn’t have his best night against Valencia and was replaced by Xavi at halftime, Pau Cubarsí has been one of the positive highlights for Barça this season, with only five games left in their campaign. The Catalan defender made his debut for the first team at just 16 years old on January 18th against Unionistas in the Copa del Rey, and since then, he has become a regular in Xavi Hernández’s lineups.

His excellent performances have earned him a call-up to the Spanish national team, with a strong possibility of featuring in the upcoming Euro Cup, and have also attracted interest from top European clubs. As a result, Barça’s sporting director, led by Deco, has been working for weeks on improving and extending his contract, as his current deal, which runs until June 30, 2026, reflects that of a youth player. His release clause stands at around ten million euros, a tempting proposition.

Negotiations with Cubarsí’s representatives have been ongoing for weeks, and both parties are confident that an agreement will be reached, especially since Cubarsí’s focus is solely on playing for Barça. At present, the central defender’s agents have received the offer from the Catalan club, and the deal is expected to be finalized once the current season concludes.

Barça’s proposal involves adjusting the player’s contract to match his current performance and committing him to the club until June 30, 2029, once he turns 18 on January 22 of next year. The club values Cubarsí as a key player for both the present and the future and is offering a salary that will increase over the years.

According to reports from ‘As’ newspaper, his salary will rise from four million euros next year to twelve million in the final year of his contract. The club also indicates that given the player’s youth and promising future, it wouldn’t be surprising if the contract needs to be renegotiated before its expiry.

With the economic terms of the agreement well advanced, the new contract’s duration is expected to be five years, as preferred by the player’s representatives. However, the release clause for Pau Cubarsí is yet to be finalized. Barça aims to include him in the “club of 1,000,” alongside players like Lamine Yamal, Ansu Fati, Gavi, Balde, Pedri, and Araujo. However, the player’s agents are hesitant, although they are open to a release clause that would be prohibitive for any European club, potentially reaching around 500 million euros.

Nevertheless, this should not hinder Barça from announcing that Pau Cubarsí will continue to wear the Blaugrana colors for several more years. However, the formal announcement of the agreement may not come until next summer.
