Barça Clarifies Ticket Confusion for Bilbao Final
The entirety of tickets that FC Barcelona made available today for the Women’s Champions League final, scheduled for May 25th at San Mamés, sold out in just half an hour. Shortly after, protests from members and supporters’ groups surfaced on social media, claiming that tickets were purchased by the general public, which was supposed to be restricted to members only today. Tomorrow would have been the turn for supporters’ groups, and Thursday for the general public.
Barça has sought to clarify this confusion. The club explains that it is the Spanish Football Federation, as the organizer of the final, responsible for ticket sales. The Federation created a link for Barcelona and another for Olympique de Lyon to access ticket purchases. Yesterday, Barça shared this link with all its members via Infosocis. It was shared exclusively with members since they had priority for purchasing tickets yesterday. The club asserts that the vast majority of tickets went to members and any purchased by non-members were facilitated by members sharing the link.
Initially, Barça had 9,000 tickets, distributed as follows: 7,400 for members, supporters’ groups, and the general public, 250 for fan groups, and 1,350 for club commitments (15% of the total as per FC Barcelona Statutes – Article 10. Rights of Members, 10.5) at prices ranging from 15 to 25 euros. Before ticket sales began, UEFA allocated an additional 2,617 tickets to Barça, released by Olympique de Lyon. 85% of these tickets were made available to members, supporters’ groups, and the general public, with the remainder reserved for club commitments. In total, Barça put 9,625 tickets on sale at noon, which sold out in just half an hour.
The club has communicated that they have already requested more tickets from UEFA to accommodate members, supporters’ groups, and the general public who were unable to purchase tickets.
