Barça Atlètic brilliantly secured their place in the Segunda División promotion playoffs with three matches still to play in the regular season, giving them a shot at direct promotion if they finish as the Group 1 leaders of the Primera RFEF.

What is the format of the promotion playoffs? The RFEF is sticking to the same formula as last season for the promotion playoff pairings to the Segunda División. The top team from each Primera RFEF group earns direct promotion, while the playoffs feature eight teams, ranging from second to fifth place from both Group 1 and Group 2 of the Primera RFEF. They compete for the final two promotion spots, as four teams in total ascend: two directly as champions and two via the playoffs.

The eight playoff teams are split into two separate brackets, with the winner of each bracket earning promotion.

Bracket A Configuration Semifinal 1: 5th place Group 2 – 2nd place Group 1 Semifinal 2: 4th place Group 1 – 3rd place Group 2 Final 1: Winner of Semifinal 1 – Winner of Semifinal 2

Bracket B Configuration Semifinal 3: 5th place Group 1 – 2nd place Group 2 Semifinal 4: 4th place Group 2 – 3rd place Group 1 Final 2: Winner of Semifinal 3 – Winner of Semifinal 4

The matches are played on a home-and-away basis, with the second leg hosted by the higher-ranked team from the regular season. In case of a tie after 180 minutes over the two legs, extra time will be played, and if the tie persists, the team with the higher regular-season ranking will advance. There will be no penalty shootouts.

What are the dates for the promotion playoffs? The promotion playoffs will take place over four consecutive weekends, starting the weekend following the conclusion of the regular season.

First leg of the first round: Saturday, June 1, and Sunday, June 2, 2024. Second leg of the first round: Saturday, June 8, and Sunday, June 9, 2024. First leg of the second round: Saturday, June 15, and Sunday, June 16, 2024. Second leg of the second round: Saturday, June 22, and Sunday, June 23, 2024.

Where to watch the promotion playoffs? All promotion playoff matches can be followed on the FEF TV platform. In Catalonia, the Esport3 channel has broadcasted Barça Atlètic and other Catalan teams’ matches during the regular season and may also provide coverage during the playoffs.

Who are the potential opponents? If Barça Atlètic, having already secured their place in the promotion playoffs, do not become champions and have to compete in the playoffs, they will face opponents from Group 2 of the Primera RFEF based on their final standings.

Currently, the Barça B team is in second place. In the first semifinal round, they would face the fifth-placed team from Group 2 of the Primera RFEF, which, with three matches left, is Ceuta (59 points).

In Group 2, Castellón has already been crowned champions and secured direct promotion. With three matches remaining, the current second-place team is Córdoba (70 points); Ibiza (64) is third, and Málaga (63) is fourth.

Recreativo de Huelva (55 points), Real Murcia (54), and Antequera (53) are currently outside the playoff spots but still have a chance to qualify.

In Group 1, the current top five standings are as follows: 1st Deportivo (71 points), 2nd Barça Atlètic (67), 3rd Gimnàstic (61), 4th Celta Fortuna (61), and 5th Ponferradina (60).
