Iñaki Peña to Stay at Barcelona

Iñaki Peña’s representative, Javier Garrido, met with Barcelona’s sporting director Deco at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper on Tuesday to discuss the goalkeeper’s future. With Marc-André ter Stegen back from a back injury, Peña returned to the bench, and both parties wanted to clarify his role moving forward. Deco confirmed that Barcelona plans to keep Peña as part of the first team alongside Ter Stegen for the next season, expressing satisfaction with Peña’s performance during Ter Stegen’s absence.

Peña, under contract with Barcelona until June 30, 2026, is happy to stay. He returned to Barcelona two summers ago after a loan spell at Galatasaray and feels at home, having gained confidence from playing 17 matches this season: 10 in La Liga, two in the Champions League, three in the Copa del Rey, and two in the Supercopa.

Only a significant offer from a major club could change Peña’s mind, but so far, no such offer has materialized. While some clubs have shown interest, none appeal to Peña as much as Barcelona, where he continues to aspire to compete with Ter Stegen and seize opportunities when Xavi needs him.
