Barcelona receive timely good news on injury issues following Clasico defeat
Barcelona are in dire need of some good news following their El Clasico defeat to rivals Real Madrid.
Although they still hold a significant twelve point lead in La Liga over Los Blancos, it will take several good performances from the Blaugrana to wash the bitter taste out of their proverbial mouth.
Crucial to that will be the return of their injured stars. Andreas Christensen, Frenkie de Jong, Pedri and Ousmane Dembele were all absent and it was felt keenly at Camp Nou on Wednesday night.
Sport say that while none of the four will be risked against Girona on Monday night, there is optimism they could be healthy for the following week against Getafe. Christensen will remain absent, but there is a sense that de Jong should be back for Getafe.
Dembele’s injury is healing much slower than expected, and Barcelona are taking each day as it comes with Dembele these days. Yet Pedri could also back – his recovery will depend on how he feels on his return to training, but it would fit the initial timeline given.
Should that be the case, it will be a major boost if at least de Jong and Pedri can get minutes under their belt ahead of Atletico Madrid the following week.
It is rather convenient that Sport published that news when they did, with Cules seeking a lift. If Barcelona can wrap up the La Liga title ahead of time though, then it may benefit them going into next season to be able to rest and rotate for the final month of the season, focusing purely on developing players and their cohesion.
