Barcelona are moving forward in their search for a replacement for Mateu Alemany as Director of Football. The club recently announced that Alemany would be leaving the role at the end of the season, sparking a flurry of rumors and speculation about who would take over the position.

Initially, former Real Betis Sporting Director Antonio Cordon was rumored to be a potential candidate for the role. However, Cordon has since been discarded as an option, leaving another former Barcelona player, Deco, as a possible front-runner for the job.

Deco played for Barcelona during his playing days and is well-regarded at the club. He has a close relationship with Joan Laporta, which could work in his favor in terms of landing the job. Currently, he works as an advisor for the Blaugrana in Brazil and has been involved in their pursuit of Vitor Roque.

As well as working as an advisor, Deco is also an agent, and he runs his own agency – D20 Sports. Some of his notable clients include Raphinha, who currently plays for Leeds United, and Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Edmond Tapsoba.

Despite his extensive experience in the world of football, Deco has never worked as a Director of Football or in a similar role. However, it appears that Barcelona are willing to take a risk on him. According to reports from MD, Deco is set to fly in next week to start negotiations.

It should be noted that Alemany will remain at Barcelona until the end of the summer transfer window if necessary. Therefore, there is no rush for the club to replace him immediately. However, with Deco potentially in the running for the job, it seems that Barcelona are moving ahead with their plans to find a successor for Alemany.
