Barcelona reportedly interested in Joao Cancelo along with two other European giants

Joao Cancelo’s future in football remains uncertain, as the Portuguese right-back does not know where he will be playing next season. Despite having a contract with Manchester City until 2025, he fell out of favour with Pep Guardiola and moved on loan to Bayern Munich, where a €70m buy option was included in the deal. Cancelo struggled initially to lock down a starting position, but with Thomas Tuchel now in charge, he has put together a run of five starts with the Bundesliga leaders.

According to 90min (via Caught Offside), Arsenal and Barcelona are also interested in signing Cancelo. In Spain, it has been suggested that he could be an option to fill the troubled right-back spot at Camp Nou. However, due to Barcelona’s financial issues, it is believed that the Catalan club would only be able to bring in Cancelo on a loan deal. City, on the other hand, would rather a permanent exit for the player.

Despite the financial obstacles, relations between the two clubs and Cancelo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, are good, which could facilitate a move. It remains to be seen whether Barcelona can convince City to agree to a loan deal, or whether Arsenal will come in with a more attractive offer. However, with Cancelo’s recent run of form at Bayern, there is no doubt that he is a sought-after player, and his future could be decided in the coming months.
