Alejandro Grimaldo receives offer from La Liga club for a free transfer

Former Barcelona left-back Alejandro Grimaldo may be returning to Spain this summer after spending most of his professional career in Portugal. The 27-year-old, who came through the La Masia academy, has been impressive at Benfica, but it seems he will not be renewing his contract with the club. Real Sociedad is reportedly interested in signing Grimaldo, and according to Diario AS, the Basque club has offered him a long-term contract. Grimaldo’s agent also represents Igor Zubeldia, with whom Real Sociedad is attempting to negotiate a new contract. Reports suggest that Grimaldo has attracted attention from clubs such as Inter, Juventus, and Fulham.

If Grimaldo signs with Real Sociedad, he would likely be an automatic starter for the team, as neither Aihen Munoz nor Diego Rico have fully convinced. Although Rico has recently extended his contract with the club, the Basque side is looking to improve its squad as it aims for a spot in the Champions League next season. Real Sociedad is only three wins away from securing their place in the competition, and it is no surprise they are targeting improvements and bigger-budget signings for the upcoming transfer window.
