Jordi Alba considering offers from other clubs amid conflicting reports about meeting with Barcelona
Jordi Alba’s future at Barcelona remains unclear, as separate versions of a meeting between his agents and the club emerged on Wednesday. Alba, who has a year left on his contract, is set to earn a remarkable €38m during that period, due to wage deferrals from previous years. As a result, Barcelona are thought to be interested in moving him on.
Joan Fontes claims that Alba is indeed considering offers to leave the club this summer. However, MD reported that they did not speak with Alba’s agents about a contract termination or a reduction in his wages, in direct contrast to reports that came out earlier. They stated that Alba is keen to continue his stay at Barcelona until the end of his contract in 2024. Cadena Cope also backed up that version of events, but stated that his agents were there to discuss other players like Hugo Guillamon at Valencia.
The contradiction over whether they spoke about changing his contract is the only information that directly contradicts the others. It could well be that Alba would rather stay at Barcelona next season, but is at the same time weighing up offers elsewhere, keeping his options open. Previously, he has said that he would be open to lowering his salary if the club asked him.
Alba has been a key player for Barcelona for many years, but the club is reportedly keen to reduce its wage bill and build for the future. If Alba were to leave, it is likely that the club would look to bring in a younger left-back as a long-term replacement. However, if he were to stay, he would provide valuable experience and leadership to the team.
