Xavi Hernandez, the manager of Barcelona, holds initial talks with Deco, the potential Director of Football candidate

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez recently had his first meeting with Deco, who is being considered for the position of Director of Football at the club. Although Deco’s appointment has not been officially confirmed yet, it is widely believed that he will be taking over from the departing Mateu Alemany.

According to SER Catalunya, the meeting took place on Friday morning and included Xavi, Deco, Assistant Manager Oscar Hernandez, and Alejandro Echevarria, who is an important figure in transfer-related matters for club president Joan Laporta. The primary agenda of the meeting was to discuss and plan for the upcoming transfer window.

Barcelona is optimistic about obtaining approval from La Liga for their viability plan next week. If they meet the targets set out in the plan, the club will be allowed to make signings during the summer transfer window.

If the approval is granted, Barcelona will have a challenging summer ahead. They will once again attempt to make significant changes to their squad, but to do so, they will need to generate significant revenue through player sales. As seen last summer with the transfer of Frenkie de Jong, Barcelona faces limitations in selling players, which means Deco will face a difficult task right from the start if he assumes the role of Director of Football ahead of this transfer window.
