Xavi remains uncertain about Jordi Alba’s future at Barcelona
Xavi has acknowledged the possibility of Jordi Alba departing Barcelona this summer if the club receives a transfer offer for the seasoned defender.
With Barcelona planning a summer overhaul at various levels, including the impending departures of captain Sergio Busquets and director of football Mateu Alemany, Xavi has taken a diplomatic stance on their exits. He praised Busquets as the “best midfielder” he has ever seen and credited Alemany for his instrumental role in the club’s restructuring.
Despite Barcelona’s likely La Liga title win, further departures are expected at Camp Nou. Jordi Alba’s future has been subject to speculation over the past year, given his contract until 2024 and high salary.
Xavi stated that the situation surrounding the 34-year-old is unclear, hinting at the possibility of him moving on. He expressed his confidence in Alba as a loyal, capable individual and recognized his significant contributions to the team.
The Barcelona legend emphasized that the decision ultimately lies with Alba, who must evaluate his own circumstances. Regardless of his choice to stay or leave, Alba’s contributions to the club have been highly valued by Xavi.
If Alba were to depart this summer, he would remain in ninth place on Barcelona’s all-time appearances list, with Xavi and Busquets currently occupying the second and third positions, respectively.
