Resignation of Barcelona Director: Stepping Down from High Stakes Multi-Billion Euro Project Role
Barcelona Suffers Another Setback as Senior Director Resigns from Multi-Billion Euro Project
Barcelona has recently faced another setback as Jordi Llaurado, a senior member of the club hierarchy, has stepped down from his position, raising concerns about the harmony within the organization.
Llaurado, whose father, Jaume Llaurado, was previously part of a Barcelona board under Joan Gaspart, had been in charge of the Espai Barca project. According to Sport, he resigned from his role several months ago and recently chose to leave the board entirely. This move follows his abstention from two crucial votes related to the project, including one concerning its financing.
The departure of Llaurado is a significant blow to the ambitious Espai Barca project, which is estimated to cost around €1.6 billion. It further amplifies concerns about the internal dynamics and stability within Barcelona’s hierarchy. Prior to Llaurado’s resignation, CEO Ferran Reverter and Director Jaume Llopis had also left their positions. Llopis, who was also involved in the Espai Barca project, had previously warned that the club’s debt could rise to €4 billion as a result of the undertaking. He even expressed his belief that Barcelona would become a privately owned entity by 2026, no longer owned by its fans.
Adding to the growing concerns, none of the original architects initially involved in the renovation of Camp Nou are currently part of the project.
While President Joan Laporta maintains that the project is progressing smoothly, the departure of Llaurado and his voting patterns undoubtedly raise valid concerns. It becomes increasingly challenging to interpret these developments as anything other than a cause for worry regarding the future of the Espai Barca project and the overall direction of the club. As Barcelona continues to navigate through these obstacles, their ability to successfully execute the ambitious project and maintain internal stability will be closely monitored by fans and observers alike.
