Barcelona Player Terminates Contract with Club Days Before Final La Liga Match
Barcelona fans bid an emotional farewell to star player Jordi Alba during his final game at Camp Nou last Sunday. However, it appears that the farewell was not just symbolic, as reports suggest that Alba has already severed ties with the club.
In a special event held at Camp Nou on Thursday evening, Barcelona organized a farewell ceremony for Alba, where current and former players came together to express their gratitude and say their goodbyes. Prior to the event, Alba visited the club offices to officially rescind his contract, despite the team still having one remaining match against Celta Vigo in La Liga on Sunday.
Although Alba was not scheduled to travel with the team for the final game, he and manager Xavi Hernandez agreed that his last match should take place at Camp Nou. The 34-year-old left-back has reportedly agreed to forego 60% of his remaining salary for the final year of his contract, effectively ending his deal one year early.
Now that he is free to negotiate with other clubs, Alba has already received a call-up to the latest Spain squad by manager Luis de la Fuente. This means that Alba will have a game to look forward to in just 13 days’ time.
Celta Vigo, who are still fighting to secure their survival in La Liga, will likely be pleased with the developments, as it appears that Barcelona may field a weakened team in their final match. In addition to Alba’s absence, Sergio Busquets, Pedri, and Alejandro Balde will also be missing from the lineup.
