La Liga clubs reach groundbreaking agreement to cap prices for away tickets
In a significant move to prioritize the experience of away fans, 14 La Liga teams have reached a historic agreement to implement a price cap for away tickets in the upcoming season. The initiative aims to foster a vibrant and supportive atmosphere during away matches in the Primera Division.
Under the agreement proposed by Aficiones Unidas (United Support), several clubs have committed to limiting the price of away tickets to a maximum of €30. This means that a minimum of 300 tickets will be made available to visiting supporters at this capped price. It is worth noting that this agreement has already been successfully implemented in the second division of Spanish football.
Among the clubs that have enthusiastically embraced this initiative are Cadiz, Almería, Sevilla, Betis, Valencia, Atletico Madrid, Girona, Real Mallorca, Celta Vigo, Real Sociedad, Athletic Club, Granada, Las Palmas, and Alaves. However, six teams, namely Real Madrid, Barcelona, Rayo Vallecano, Villarreal, Getafe, and Osasuna, initially did not join the agreement. Nonetheless, there are indications that Barcelona may reconsider their stance as they prepare to return to Camp Nou next season after playing their home matches at Montjuic this year. Recent reports suggest that Barcelona has decided to join the agreement, aligning themselves with the other clubs.
This agreement marks a crucial step in the right direction, as it aims to rectify the disparity between the treatment of local fans and traveling supporters, who often feel marginalized in favor of televised viewership. By prioritizing the matchday experience for away fans, La Liga clubs are demonstrating their commitment to creating an inclusive and passionate atmosphere within stadiums throughout the country.
